Eyes of the Beholder

Julia Greenall

For my piece I wanted to illustrate the phoenix landscape in a familiar, but unique fashion. I wanted to use the combination of warm colors present in the Arizona flag, and cool colors seen at sunset. I incorporated the theme “perception” in the eyes of the butterfly. I wanted to illustrate perception by creating sort of a mirage with the eyes on the butterfly, something that might or might not actually be there. I also wanted to draw attention to the fact that nature is always watching us as humans, and that we can perceive our natural surroundings in a variety of ways.
